Spectaculum

About Spectaculum

Spectaculum started with a problem at home: years of movies, shows and home videos stored on OneDrive, and no easy way to watch them on the TV. The options were copying them to a USB drive every time or setting up a server that had to stay on all day. Neither one felt right.

The idea was to flip it around: have the app go get the videos where they already live and present them like a streaming service, with posters, seasons and "continue watching." Later came Google Drive, Dropbox, MEGA, network drives over SMB and WebDAV, Android TV, Windows and this web version.

The name

Spectaculum is Latin for "spectacle," "what is watched." It comes from the verb spectare, to watch closely, the same root as spectator and spectacular. It felt right for an app whose only job is putting your stuff on the screen.

Who makes it

Spectaculum is an independent project from Hosttem SpA, a small Chilean company. It has no investors and no plans to sell data: it's supported by the ads in this site's guides.
